In the extreme circumstances caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, California residents have the opportunity to seek certain help from government assistance programs, regardless of their immigration status. The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act (hyperlink) provides support for families. Although this is promising, satisfactory immigration status in the US are required to access these benefits.In addition to CARES, Califorina based workers are eligible for Disability Insurance and Paid Family Leave benifts. NBC Los Angeles's Luis Treto reports that "citizenship and immigration status do not affect eligibility" to apply for disability insurance when infected with coronavirus.
